" I believe students learn best when they enjoy the process. A teacher’s energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement can make all the difference, turning lessons into something students truly look forward to. Sharing my love of music in this way is both a joy and a privilege."
Paul Nouri

Hello, I’m Paul, and I’ve been teaching piano for over 20 years. During that time, I’ve had the privilege of working one-on-one with hundreds of students and getting to know so many wonderful families. Teaching piano is more than my profession—it’s something I genuinely love.

Every lesson is a new adventure and an opportunity to explore music from a fresh perspective while developing creativity, expression, confidence, and solid technique. My goal is not simply to teach students how to play the piano, but to help them build a meaningful and lasting relationship with music.

I believe music is one of the most powerful tools we have for expressing ourselves, understanding our emotions, and bringing balance to our lives. Along the way, students also develop patience, concentration, discipline, and the confidence that comes from mastering new challenges.

When I teach, I begin by meeting each student exactly where they are that day. Every student is unique, and I believe that genuine learning happens when there is trust, encouragement, and a personal connection between teacher and student. Before anything else, I recognize that I’m working with a person—not just teaching a skill.

Lessons are focused, but they’re also enjoyable. It’s not unusual for us to laugh, joke, and celebrate small victories along the way. Creating a positive, relaxed environment helps students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and growing with confidence.

One of the things I value most as a teacher is helping students enter what I call a state of flow—a place where they are focused without being tense, relaxed without losing their attention, and fully engaged in the music. I believe this is where the deepest learning takes place and where practicing becomes both productive and rewarding.

Of course, lasting progress happens between lessons. That’s why I place a strong emphasis on healthy, realistic practice habits that students can maintain consistently. My goal is to help every student not only become a better pianist, but also develop a lifelong appreciation for music and the joy that comes from making it.

This page is a collection of special moments from recitals, performances, and other events over the years. I hope these photos capture not only the music, but also the joy, growth, and confidence that each student develops along the way.

One of the things I love most about group performances is that every student has something to learn from every other student. Younger students can watch the older ones and see what’s possible with patience, dedication, and consistent practice. They begin to imagine themselves reaching those same milestones one day. At the same time, older students have the opportunity to watch the younger performers and remember where they started. It’s a wonderful reminder of how much they’ve grown, not only as pianists, but as individuals.

I believe we’re all teachers and students at the same time. We inspire one another, encourage one another, and celebrate each other’s progress. It’s one of the many things that makes learning music such a meaningful and rewarding journey.

Don't Practice Until You Can Get It Right, Practice Until You Can't Get It Wrong.

Inside a Lesson:

Although every lesson is tailored to the individual student, a typical lesson might include some combination of the following:

🎹 Warm-Up & Review

We begin by reviewing the previous week’s material, celebrating progress, and identifying areas that need a little more attention. This helps build confidence while reinforcing healthy practice habits.

📖 Repertoire

Students usually work on two types of pieces simultaneously: easier repertoire that builds reading fluency and confidence, and more challenging pieces that are developed over several weeks or months. I believe this balance allows students to experience frequent success while continuing to stretch their musical abilities.

🎼 Technique & Theory

Depending on the student’s level, we may work on scales, chords, arpeggios, finger exercises, music reading, rhythm, and music theory. As students advance, they also develop a deeper understanding of concepts such as key signatures, chord progressions, and the Circle of Fifths.

👂 Ear Training

Learning to recognize melodies, intervals, chords, and rhythms by ear helps students become more complete musicians. Ear training strengthens listening skills and creates a deeper connection between hearing, understanding, and performing music.

🎵 Creative Activities

Lessons may also include improvisation, rhythm games, musical “follow the leader,” piano duets, sight-reading, composition, or other activities that reinforce musical concepts while keeping lessons engaging and enjoyable.

Every Lesson Is Different. No two lessons are exactly alike because no two students are alike.

Some days a student is excited and ready to tackle something challenging. Other days they may need a little encouragement, a different approach, or even a change of pace. Part of my role as a teacher is recognizing where a student is mentally and emotionally each day and adjusting the lesson accordingly.

I believe the most effective lessons strike a balance between structure and flexibility. There is always a clear direction and purpose, but there is also room for curiosity, creativity, laughter, and exploration. When students feel challenged without feeling overwhelmed, they naturally become more engaged, more confident, and more motivated to learn.

I just wanted to say how much we appreciate your patience and dedication in teaching Carson. Your passion for music is truly inspiring, and he has learned so much under your guidance. Thank you for making each lesson enjoyable and helping him grow his love for music and become a better student."

Cara

"Paul has taught my daughter for three years and we have been impressed by how he has helped engender both a rigorous understanding of the skills to play the piano and also a love and appreciation for music. He explains musical concepts, technique, the artistry of perfecting a piece and background of composers in ways that are clear to her understanding and make her feel encouraged that she can accomplish hard things through practice. Paul’s steady and calm demeanor and way of interacting with kids has helped develop a trust that is manifest in ways like how excited my daughter is for lessons and how eager she is to practice. From a young age he has a fun program of keeping track of pieces that are passed off and rewarding the student with musical prizes along the way. Each lesson is filled with thoughtful instruction and genuine care and we love the music that fills our home. We highly recommend Paul!

"Paul Nouri has been our piano teacher for over 5 years and has taught 4 of my 5 children. He does a fantastic job with customizing each lesson to fit the best learning style and needs of each of my individual children. He uses a variety of techniques to make learning the piano fun and to motivate the children to practice outside of their lessons. He is an incredibly accomplished musician and is able to translate that skill into teaching the younger generations. He is kind, patient, fun and flexible. We highly recommend Paul, he is the best!"

Meredith

"Paul has been a phenomenal piano instructor for our sons. His own playing is gorgeous to listen to, inspiring his students. And he is dedicated to bringing out the best each player, focusing on technique, expression, and musical mastery. We especially appreciate his dedication to figuring out what makes each child tick and how to best engage them from as young as five years old. Our boys look forward to lessons with him and have developed into strong players under his tutelage. We highly recommend Paul."
